The Bar and Billiard Room began life in 1896 with the opening of the famed Raffles Hotel. Its function has changed a few times over the years, but the room has been restored to its former glory. In fact, the décor and general atmosphere is so reminiscent of the days of British colonialism that you may find yourself adopting an accent, donning a pith helmet, and calling for a spot of tea. As evening settles in, this is the perfect place to sip a single malt scotch and enjoy a cigar while watching a friendly challenge on one of the antique pool tables. The bar is also popular for afternoon tea, complete with very British tarts and finger sandwiches.

ORCHARD ROAD. Bar None's stylish two-level space, in the basement of the Marriott hotel, is exceedingly popular, with fans lining up at the door nearly every night. Part of the draw is the house band, a talented bunch that gets folks dancing and singing along to classic and contemporary rock. The staff is super friendly, and bartenders whip up most excellent cocktails.

Fabulously fashionable IndoChine Group has five locations in Singapore, each with its own amazingly stylish bars and interiors. The three-level Club Street branch has two bars, a restaurant and an art gallery; Bar SaVanh is on the ground level. It's a beautifully conceived space with a waterfall, a koi pond, and lots of green leafy plants, along with carefully arranged sofas and chairs. Once you're done checking out the décor, Bar SaVanh is an excellent spot to spend a relaxed evening. Other super trendy locations by Indochine include The Forbidden City at Clarke Quay -- which, despite its name has two very welcoming bars and a restaurant -- Nude Restaurant at Orchard Wisma Atria, Siam Reap restaurant in Holland Village and Bar Opiume at Empress Place.

MOHAMED SULTAN. Combine fine sangria and tapas with a lively Latin-flavored soundtrack, and what do you get? Well, in Singapore you get BarCelona! Sit yourself down with a nice cold drink (be it wine, an icy beer, sangria or a fruity cocktail), then order some wonderful little plates of grilled sausages, sautéed mushrooms, mixed seafood and olives. It's all so atmospheric ­ you may forget you're on a tropical island and not in the sunny Mediterranean!

Although Barrio Chino translates roughly to "Chinatown," this is most definitely NOT a "Chinese" bar. The vibe could be described as Spain meets, well, the rest of the world. It's a cosmopolitan sort of place, done up in warm browns and yellows, with an eclectic mix of world music in the background and a selection of tapas on the menu. The super friendly neighborhood bar is especially popular with ex-pats.
