ORCHARD ROAD. Emerald Hill is a prestigious street with a row of former shophouses that have been converted into upscale nightspots. At #5 Emerald Hill Cocktail Bar you'll find a classy space that capitalizes on architectural details and an exceptional array of cocktails and shooters. Que Pasa is a trendy wine and tapas bar decorated to resemble a "Spanish provisions store" with shelves of wine and canned goods, barrel tables and wood. Ice Cold Beer is the most casual and hardest-partying of the three, and boasts special ice tanks that perfectly chill your beer in no time flat (well, almost), plasma TVs, darts and pool, plus good pub grub, all to the tune of classic rock standards.

MOHAMED SULTAN. An upscale wine bar resembling a gothic European wine cellar, complete with cobwebby candelabras, arched doorways and antique accessories. The owner also happens to be a wine distributor, so expect to find an exceptionally nice selection on hand at any given time. Along with wine, the bar serves lovely appetizers.

From its name you can tell that this is a wine bar without airs. The cellar has over 300 labels, the majority of which sell for under SD50 a bottle, but there's a fine selection of exclusive bottles as well. If you prefer to bring your own, corkage is only SD10. Wine often goes better with food, and the menu here is perfect. Both small and large plates are available, so you can either graze or enjoy a full meal. Try the homemade potato chips with blue cheese fondue, grilled squid salad with confit of peppers, steak tartar, seared red snapper with quinoa salad, homemade gnocchi, or even a steak. As with its sister outlets, Brewerkze and Café Iguana, everything is made fresh right on-site.
